About

We have been actively working since 2023, carrying out seminars, awareness sessions, and community work to promote the mission of Colour of My Skin (COMS). Although our charity became officially registered in 2025, our efforts began much earlier. Our foundation was built through consistent on-ground work, community engagement, and real stories that shaped our purpose long before formal registration.

Understanding the Issues

At Colour of My Skin (COMS), we conduct research to better understand the experiences of discrimination, racism, and inequality across the UK. Our goal is to identify the challenges faced by individuals and communities so we can develop effective programmes, campaigns, and policies that promote fairness, equality, and social cohesion.

Why This Matters

Racism continues to affect people living in major cities such as London and Birmingham. Our research helps highlight areas where intervention is needed to create safer, more inclusive communities.

Hate Crime and Racial Inequality: Key Evidence

Data from London and across England and Wales shows high levels of hate crime and persistent racial disparities in policing. These findings highlight under-reporting, systemic bias, and the need for evidence-based action to promote equality and community safety

Evidence from London

London consistently reports some of the highest numbers of hate crimes in the UK. In 2023/24, the Metropolitan Police recorded 27,454 hate crime incidents, the highest count of any police force. Independent investigations have also highlighted racial bias in policing practices

National Hate Crime Statistics

Across England and Wales, hate crimes remain a serious concern. In the year ending March 2025, police forces recorded 115,990 hate crimes, with race hate crimes increasing by 6% compared with the previous year. These figures do not include London’s Metropolitan Police data, which is typically among the highes

Our Commitment

By conducting research and analysing policy, COMS seeks to use evidence based insights to influence local and national initiatives, challenge systemic discrimination, and ensure that all communities can live in safety, equality, and harmony.
